Honfleur, Normandy

A Sunday drive took us to Honfleur, Normandy

This beautiful old picturesque port, characterized by it houses with slate-covered frontages have been painted many times over the years by such artists as Claude Monet and Gustave Courbet, just to name a few.

Honfleur is busy with fishing boats as it leads
to the exit of Pont de Normandie.

Parts of the Old For (the Lieutenancy)
still remain today as seen in the above picture.

An expedition in 1608, organised
 by Samuel de Champlain,
founded the city of Quebec.

The Bell tower in the background and to the right
of the picture is part of St. Catherine's Church.
Built in the 15-16 century, the church was built by shipwrights and is the largest wooden church with a separate bell-tower in France.
